STANDARD WORK

The tools that define the interaction of the operator with tools and equipment in producing a product. Standard work documents the standard operation. As a minimum, it consists of the Standard Work Sheet and Standard Work Combination Sheet. It details the motion of the operator and the sequence of the machines. Standard work defines a least-waste routine of consistency for an operation and provides a basis for improvement. When the standard operation is improved, the standard work is revised to reflect the change. There can be no improvement without the basis of standard work. The concept of standard work is that it is a verb, not a noun – it defines actions rather than things.
